Sting Operations Make Me Cringe
To me most Indian news channels are nothing but a business hub with almost every bit of their content influenced by sponsor’s advertisements, money making SMS polls, non-conclusive discussions, invented news at its best and priority towards political affiliations. But what takes the cake in this malicious battle of TRPs, is the so-called revolutionary invention, “Sting Operation”.
Really sting operations make me cringe; especially the ones done by Indian News Channels, all under the pretense of investigative journalism. Right from the very first one I had heard of – you know, the (in) famous, casting couch operation targeting Bollywood personalities. Rajat Sharma and his gang of super dud morons at India TV used cheap tactics in order to stand out in the overly- crowded television industry. Did you know that India TV’s market share jumped from 4-6 per cent to 10 per cent when this particular sting operation was aired.
And now we have this.
New Lifestyle Channel : NDTV Good Times
Good news all you Lifestyle fans!! Now you’ll no longer have to stay glued to Discovery Travel & Living (though I must say, it’s one HECK of a great channel!) but now, you’ll have another channel for all your lifestyle needs!
The King of Good Times, Mr. Vijay Mallya now puts his thumb into the Television pie along with NDTV’s Prannoy Roy and viola! It’s ‘NDTV Good Times’!
Nach Baliye 3 : Queen Sawant Is Back!
I have to say the Star Network guys have done it again and that too without the almighty Ms. Ekta Kapoor. Surely you all must have heard and in case you haven’t then here’s the big news – Super hit dance reality show, Nach Baliye is back. And that too with a bang, one has to agree.
First and foremost, Season 3 of Nach Baliye marks the return of reality queen and my mostest favorite Rakhi Sawant. The entertainment powerhouse will be doing what she does best – item number and (hopefully) annoying the shits out of her fellow contestants. As the show’s rules state, Rakhi would be accompanied by her real-life boyfriend, Abhishek. Though I seriously wonder whether he would be able to attract any attention, especially with Ms. Sawant standing right next to him. From what I have been reading, Rakhi darling has been sweating blood with excessive dance practice and such is her dedication that she even went ahead with modification of her private assets, in order to reduce the bouncing effect.
News Channels in Suicide Row
My opinion of Indian news channels has never been high but I never imagined they were positively life threatening. The police in Varanasi, however, are making precisely that claim.
According to them, reporters from two news stations, IBN7 and Star News, along with local politicians incited a group of disabled roadside vendors to consume poison to protest the city administration’s decision to clear the sidewalks they’d claimed for themselves. Two arrests have already been made and an FIR lodged against the two television channels.
Sultan: Super Star Turns Super Hero
While all the media hype focuses on Sivaji, the Thalaivar has made sure that he will not go off the loop completely once the buzz over Sivaji dies down. This is surprising, given there is usually a big lull and uncertainty about the next Rajni movie until it, in fact, gets announced. People speculate if he is actually going to act in another movie and such. This time when we went to watch Sivaji, the Sultan trailer greeted us prior to the opening credits. Something that is sure to ensure a good buzz, once the excitement over Shankar’s latest offering dies down.
It was both surprising as well as refreshing to see an actor feature in an animated movie. Well, we know Shahrukh Khan, did some voice overs in the Hindi dubbing of The Incredibles, but this one is an entirely novel concept – where the animated character is modeled on the actor. One that gives yet another endorsement of his demi-God status.
