To put it simply, DesiDabba is our effort to be your one-stop guide into one of the world's most lucrative television market, The Indian Television Industry. So enjoy and bring on the traffic. More about Desi Dabba
This is purely my opinion, but I feel that there are plenty of good male playback singers around. There is the tuneful Sonu Nigam, the joyful Kunal Ganjawala, the rocking Shaan, the soulful Hariharan and Anand Raaj Anand, the graceful Babul Supriyo – the overcrowded list goes on. It’s the female singers that I feel are missing something. And I do understand that they can hit the highs and lows with facility – but it’s the screechy-ness I have a problem with.
Sunidhi Chauhan is an exception. But take Tulsi Kumar – a Himesh Reshammiya prodigy – for one. How about Alka Yagnik? Or the celebrated Shreya Ghoshal? Hey even Richa Sharma – after the amazing Maahi Ve from Kaante got shrill. Gayatri Iyer? Great work on Kasak but same deal. Sneha Pant, Meghna Oberoi, even Mahalaxmi Iyer – they all fail to get me excited.
And that is when I heard two singers – both female – who made me sit up and listen closely. I was looking for that husky voice, something that sounded sensuous – like it belonged to a woman instead of a little girl. And both these singers deliver exactly that.

The video in question is Beautiful Liar directed by Jake Nava. Jake Nava known for his raunchy videos such as Beyonce’s Crazy In Love, Baby Boy, and Naughty Girl.

Amy Winehouse |
MTV and [V], play Amy Winehouse now! You can thank Desi Dabba later that you did!
Both media giants, among other music channels, stick to music that is mass marketable. Its prime time rotations are all occupied by TV friendly videos and catchy pop music. Bully for them, I’m not complaining. But would they make space for a genuine artist who is a rising talent and who just served us notice with a terrific second album?
Amy Winehouse, whose new album Back to Black is so powerful and sublime a collection of 60’s jazz and soul inflected songs, that it would make anyone sit up and take notice.
DJ Suketu’s Kya Khoob Lagti Ho provides the answer.

And while we are here…Udita, while your slinky glamour might appeal to a lot of people – dancing in your banyaan: NO!
A good friend and one of the known Indian bloggers, Kamla Bhatt seems to be disappointed with one of her favorite Video Jockeys cum Talk Show hostess – Channel [V]‘s Lola Kutty.
However she doesn’t blame the entire disappointment on the South Indian lass alone but also her well-known guest ex-Hero No. 1, our very own booty shaker aka. Mr. Govinda.
