Movie Review Johnny Gaddar (2007)

When I was a child, I would like reading books. As I was not the intelligent kind, I never read classic literature. I read thrillers and detective novels. The beauty of thrillers and detective novels was to read as the mystery unravels, as the story twist and turns and ends to a perfect climax. I would be so excited reading that I wanted to finish the novel in one go without jumping to the end. After all the fun was as much as in the journey as it was in the climax.

As I watched “Johnny Gaddar” (JG), I felt the same rush, the same excitement and the same fun of reading a thriller novel and this ends in less than three hours. JG is a fast paced thriller. The question here is not about who did it but about, he did it, now what?

It about a gang of 5 people headed by Dharmendra, called Sheshadri, a one-time smuggler who now buys and sells some illegal stuff. Then there is Shiva, a wrestler, Prakash, owner of a gambling den, Shardul, owner of a night club and Vikram, a person who works in stock.

Jhalak Dikhla Ja 2: Mona Singh Gets On My Nerves

I have been meaning to do a post on one of Sony Network’s popular reality show for a very long time now. But just could never find the time to do so and yes, I have responsibilities in the off-line world as well.

Frankly speaking, Jhalak Dikhla Ja’s previous was undoubtedly very impressive – Farah Khan was ruthless, Shipla Shetty added the “oomph” factor, Farah Khan’s ex-boyfriend’s outburst was hilarious and for some reason, I find Archana Puran Singh’s face really very amusing. But when I realized how heavily the channel was pushing one of their very own, which was totally unfair on other contestants, I switched over to another tele-show. Television actress, Mona Singh may have begun her career with a “glossy” bang which many aspirants can only dream off but do you really think she has lived up to the hype that Sony Channel has (superficially) created around her.

Movie Review Dhamaal: A Nice Comedy Movie

This review of the movie will essentially have the story as well, so at any point if you think that your surprise element of the movie is getting spoiled, stop reading at that point of time.

Dhamaal, a name for a comedy. So off I went into the theater, thinking that with the spate of comedies that we have seen recently and with many of them being somewhat ribald and raunchy, there would be a spate of heroines with short hemlines and lots of skin display; I was pleasantly surprised. This was a pretty clean movie from the context of double meaning dialogues as well, a good family movie.

It’s a different matter that the opinion of this sort of movie varies a lot. I know a lot of people who would consider the spate of incidents and accidents that befall the characters in this movie as contrived and not worth laughing at; I however am not one of them. I enjoyed the movie and laughed with everybody else in the hall at the continuous spate of humorous incidents that happen in the movie.

Nach Baliye 3: Disadvantage Rakhi Sawant

Before I get to jotting down my reasons for the above title, I have to say this – yesterday was perhaps my most favorite evening in the history of Indian Television. Not only was I entertained by the dhamakedar Rakhi Sawant but I also thoroughly enjoyed the filmy tadka added by the Partner jodi, Salman Khan and Govinda.

For those who missed the opening episode of Nach Baliye 3, all I have to say is – better look up for the re-run because believe this is going to end up as one heck of a Reality Dance Show.

Movie Review Manorama - Six Feet Under (2007)

I convinced my friend to watch “Manorama - Six Feet Under” (M-SFU) but not without a warning that it would be different. I even tried explaining what Film-noir mean reading everything about it wikipedia as I do not understand the concept myself too. He in turn convinced his wife to join him. They rush from Thane to join me at the 8:00 PM show in Malad.

They make it 20 minutes into the film.

M-SFU is not a normal bollywood film. With all the reviews in Rediff and PFC, I had a vague idea about how it would go. I was looking forward to it and hoped I enjoy it the same way I enjoyed “Ek Challis ki Last local”
