Shilpa Shetty Now In Australian Big Brother

There is an old Hindi saying, “Uperwala jab deta hai toh chappad phad kar deta hai” and Ms. Shilpa Shetty’s celebrity status is its perfect example. An absolute goner as an actress in Hindi film industry, who would have thought a 5 weeks stint in a reality show would end up making her a household name, not just in India but world over.

In January 2007, UK’s Big Brother Celebrity series attracted the largest ever number of public complaints to the UK broadcasting watchdog Ofcom. The complaints revealed apprehensions that Shilpa had been subjected to bullying, allegedly with undertones of racism. Though I firmly believe that it was more of a “bitch fight” issue and not racism, the publicity generated was enough to arouse a sea of worldwide controversies making Shilpa an overnight international star.

And as they say, the rest is history.

Since her Big Brother act, the lady has been in news for taking up large number of international commercial offers, lead roles at the western musical like Chicago and Bombay Dreams, product endorsements, cookery shows, autobiography, Jane Fonda like fitness videos, formal invitations to meet Britain’s Queen Elizabeth and Prime Minister Tony Blair.

Latest being that the actress is expected to appear on an Australian reality TV show. Shilpa will go into the Big Brother house on the Gold Coast while on a promotional tour for her soon to be released Bollywood film, Metro. Finer details are being sorted between the Shetty camp and Channel 10 Network.

According to ITV News, the actress, who recently appeared in ‘Celebrity Big Brother’ in the UK, is due fly to Australia next month to promote her new film and the show’s producers are eager to get her on board.

A spokesman for Australia’s Channel Ten said: "We are trying to work out just how long she can spend in the house."

Executive producer Tim Toni said that he hoped that Shetty would be able to "liven up" the house.

As for the kissing controversy between the leading lady and Hollywood actor Richard Gere that took place at an AIDS-awareness event in New Delhi – do we really care what our nation’s useless political parties think of it? Nope, I don’t believe so.
