The Business of News Channels

Since one of our blog regulars (yes, we too have fans) advised us to carry out a survey on consumer preferences regarding news, which I do think is an excellent idea but sadly not feasible, atleast not at this point in time since our incoming traffic isn’t all that great.

But alls not lost here.

I had taken poll back in the month of January on my personal blog, asking readers to vote for the news channel they thought was more into money making business rather than doing their job i.e. present noteworthy information.

The results weren’t all that surprising however I was of the opinion that India TV would win hands down but guess what, another news channel seems to be far more ahead in crappy news coverage.

So without any further a due, here is the original post, poll and the result.

She is fine with the concept of freedom of speech as long as it gives her and people like her, who share her views the right to freedom of speech. The moment someone with an opposing viewpoint comes forward, somehow that same freedom of speech is not so sacrosanct for her anymore.

Apollo, a good blogger friend has written an apposite post about the likes of Barkha Dutt – who today are recognized as the face of Main Stream Media.

On the other end, Shadows informs us about a SMS survey carried out by Star News on “Who is the biggest zero of 2006?”. No, this poll had nothing to do with Bollywood but had everything to do with individuals like Rahul Mahajan, Manu Sharma and Shibu Soren.

Couple of month’s back I had written a post on India TV’s claim that Astrology can reveal if an individual is Homosexual. I would rank this news report by the ever famous, dumb-headed Rajat Sharma’s news channel to be the worst to ever come out of the idiot box since the intervention of cable network.

Be it Rajdeep Sardesai, Vir Sanghvi or Prannoy Roy; they all have been accused of representing biased news, time and time again. Today most Indian news channels come across as some sort of a business hub with most of their content based on sponsor’s advertisements, money making SMS polls, non-conclusive discussions, invented news at its best and priority towards political affiliations.

With so much corruption and personal intentions involved, tell me will we ever get information from the ones responsible just the way it is? I guess not, atleast not till the time money and TRPs are their main goals.

Keeping with the topic, pick your pick.
