Abhi, Pak Gaye Yaar!

As the D-Day arrived near for Aishwarya and Abhishek, the news channels go overboard to report the preparation, the guest and whatever they can find of the wedding. The secrecy sorrounding the wedding isn’t helping much as the news channel tries desperately to find tit-bits about the wedding. They go on interviewing anybody even remotely connected to the Bachchans or the Rai.

One Mumbai newspaper sent a fake Abhishek Bachchan to Aishwarya Rai’s house. Star News reported about a fake Salman Khan being at the Sangeet Cermony. Right from the dress to the venue to the songs in the sangeet to the dress of the invitees, they report everything. It’s a good thing the newshound are not invited to the wedding or we might have seen the loo which Abhishek used before the wedding with maybe the details of what he ate. Remember SRK’s ad for KBC, "Muli ke parathe?”.

Imagine a new channel reporter standing at the loo door and communicating live with a person in the studio.

The person in the studio asks "Rajiv, Bataiye kya haal hai wahan? Kahan ho aap? Kahan hai Abhishek Bachchan? "The camera zooms on the second image in Amitabh Bachchan’s bunglow and Rajiv standing in front of the loo; "Viswasniya sutro se pata chala hai ki Abhishek Bachchan mandap main jane se pehle yahi aakar gaye the." He stops and smells then with a victorius grin he says "Hum apne darshako ko yeh bata de ki hamare andaaj se unhone muli ke parathe khaye the". The camera zooms back to the studio where the news anchor smiles back. "Aap dekh sakte hai ki hamare savadata thik mauke par hai aur abhi abhi Abhishek Bachchan ne jo toilet use kiya tha, wahi who khade hai. Unke andaaze se Abhishek ne aaj muli ke parathe khaye the. Aaiye ispar hum expert rai lete hai. Hamare studio main aaj Girdharprasad Halwaii aaye hai. Girdharprasad ji! Aapko kya lagta hai? Kya Abhishek ne sachmuch Muli ke parathe khaye honge?"

I wouldn’t go in much detail about Girdharprasad’s interview. It looks funny but this could happen. The emphasis seems to be more on generating news than reporting news. Agreed that the marriage in first family of Hindi film industry would be a news gold mine but bombarding the viewers with the same news over and over is a little too much. Yesterday I saw a 45 minutes program dedicated to the wedding and sangeet ceremony on Star News. (I get only two news channel here).

I went on switching between channels to come back if they ended the program and to my horror it is still going on. Now it’s getting too much of Aishwarya-Abhishek wedding and its overloading of their marriage news. Its just so tiring to watch the same kind of news on every channel without any analysis of the news.

I would just like to say to the News channel – "Bus karo! Abhi, pak gaye yaar!"

Lol!! :)

I thought Aaj Tak was the worst. They had a whole 1 hour or ever more airtime dedicated to the chaos outside the Bachchan household.

Around mid-night, NDTV too joined the rest.

I am glad I don’t get to watch Indian channels out here in Moscow :)

“Girdharprasad’s interview” kind of stuff has indeed happened many, many times.

Since you guys are trying to run an authoritative website about Indian TV scene, would you be willing do a survey on consumer preferences regarding news? I don’t think any such data exists.

Vivek : Well Indian News Channels are another form of entertainment. So if you are bored watching “Great Indian Laughter Challenge”…then just switch over to the news channels.

As for the survey bit, well we could do that but then you need a good number of traffic coming in…which sadly isn’t the case as of yet. :(

I loved this post :-)
Halwai and mooli ke parathein.. what a laugh roit..
I m glad I didnt take indian channels yet. I do remember getting bugged while i was in delhi during january, All they would cover is “Nithari and Shilpa shetty big brother stuff” Come on Man.. I had to wait literally 4 hours to listen impact of fog on my impending flight..
i guess its highly spiced and commercialised news channel we are seeing there….for that matter CNN and US channels are no better either.. But here atleast you get local channels to swicth to…I guess Someone needs to realise “public wants a balance between doordarshan news and this starry news channels..
On face value, Doordarshan had better news than these useless crap..

Very funny yet true. Its frustrating to see irrelevant and unimportant events being broadcasted 24/7 on TV instead of serious issues such as the OBC quota issue which has put on hold the admissions of so many students.
