Last night I watched in awe apni Bigg Boss’s Queen Rakhi Sawant chat up Karan Johar over Koffee, I am sure many of you reading this post did so too and so did tons of other Sawant fans. Inspite being an admirer of the controversial item girl, I had pre-decided that I would watch this particular episode from a neutral point of view - If I found her act to be overly pretentious rather than her being herself, my review post would rip her to shreds. After all no fan likes to be felt cheated and neither do I.
Why is that I get disappointed in serials so early. When the ads for Saat Phere, Saloni Ka Safar started coming on Zee, they seemed somewhat different from all the saas-bahu serials, maybe as a breath of fresh air. The concept of a women struggling because of her skin colour is something that is very intrinsic to Indian culture, one that we do not recognize as racism. I had some hope that this would be a more realistic story.
So, when the serial started in the third quarter of 2005, initially things were good. This had a good girl (Saloni played by Rajshree Thakur) playing the role of a dedicated daughter fighting against colour based discrimination. The initial portrayal was realistic, with family not sure about her future, and she hoping for the best. Her younger sister was also fairly realistic, having been pampered due to her good looks, and feeling the pride in it.

Those regular viewers of Star World might have been aware of this insanely (yet intelligently) funny show that first aired in the US on Fox. Three seasons, tons of critical acclaim, cult fan base, 6 Emmy awards and one Golden Globe Award later, guess what happened? The show got pulled off by the scheming executives heading Fox. While Fox News was known for its largely laughable claim of providing ‘comprehensive and unbiased’ coverage of news, its entertainment arm was infamous for its atrocious program scheduling. Family Guy was spectacularly pulled off air twice (but brought back due to its huge fan base). Anyway, getting back to the show at hand, Arrested Development was a classic example of a show that was too intelligent for its own good.
I must admit, this is a great movie. I watch this with great abandon every time it comes on TV, and the songs are very hummable. This is another movie by Subhash Ghai, and was a super-hit at its time. Release in 1980, it stars Rishi Kapoor, Tina Munim, Simi Garewal (negative role), Pran and others.
The story of the movie encompasses both revenge and rebirth, so you should leave aside your logic when watching this movie. Rishi Kapoor is a singer and an orphan, and fairly successful. He starts getting strange headaches and glimpses of a murder. Doctors are unable to diagnose a specific reason, but the doctor is open to the idea that this is a vision of previous birth.
Yes we are Indians and we are morally bankrupt. I mean what else can explain the fiascos created over something as minute and insignificant as a “peck on the cheekâ€. Couple of weeks back, actor Richard Gere kissed a bharitiya nari Ms. Shilpa Shetty on her hand and her cheek at a charity event, as for the news channels covering the event this bit of action was the only portion worth reporting – after all who really cares about Aids awareness campaign, HIV positive people and the hard work put in by the man considered the culprit.
