Fashion TV : Axed By The I&B Goons

It looks like the goons at the Information & Broadcasting ministry are back in the news for doing what they are most well known for – hoodlum-giri.

In January, minister P R Dasmunshi banned the AXN satellite channel, for two months for showing a program called World’s Sexiest Advertisements citing the reasons as “bad taste” and “against Indian moralities”. Well to me, at that time, the only guys with bad taste seemed to be none other than Mr. Dasmunshi and his battalion.

But now things seem to be raising much above the tolerant level with the continuation of convenient moral-policing act adopted by these so-called responsible officials. And this time round the channel bearing the brunt of their biased tactics is, Fashion TV (FTV).

Fashion TV has been banned starting from 1st of April for two months for showing too much flesh in its raunchy footage of scantily clad women pouting and sashaying down ramps in a show called Midnight Hot.

Mumbai Mirror Reports:

On Thursday Dasmunshi announced the ban on satellite channel FTV.com India with effect from April 1, saying that its Midnight Hot programme showed skimpily-dressed and semi-naked models against good taste and decency. The I&B ministry said that the programme was likely to adversely affect public morality. The ministry invoked a section of Cable Television Networks Regulation Act 1995 to ban the channel till May 30 this year.

Apparently this is not the first time FTV has had to face such horrible music; the channel was first banned in February 2002 for a week for its vulgar (???) content.

One really wonders whether such double-standard approach adopted by politicians and officials’ in-charge will ever come to a halt. I mean at one end they are banning foreign channels in the name of decency and morals but on the other side they are not irked by scantly dressed women in tons of Re-mixed Hind videos and semi-porn movies televised on various regional channels even minutely offensive.

And let’s not even start discussing the good Ms. Ekta Kapoor and her women of substance are doing for the great Indian culture and its purity (not!).

Its really sad to hear the decision form our ministry of broadcastof banning Ftv. On one hand when one can get easily availabilty of Blue films in streets banning FTV is meaningless and a harsh decison which is unanimous.

Moreover we are living on CAS systems when one can get the channels what he likes so why is Govt. to interfear in between choosing channels… it is the customers who have to decide and have to pay…

If Govt wishes to play some role in this regard .. then I think… is that Govt, should place a high amount of taxes on this channels or whatever (Taxes) so that they can grow more taxes (funds) for the welfare of poor and handy.
