The Top 10 Bond Girls

famke_janssen_004.jpgAnyone watch those James Bond films that play all the time on Cable? I do. Every time. There is something about Bond flicks that taps into our sense of reckless boyhood. (I’m not sure how many women watch these reruns but girls, if you want to get to know your men, I suggest you do).

Over the years, of course, one of the things that the franchise has struggled with has been how women have been represented in the movies.

Recently, Joshua Rich, staff writer for Entertainment Weekly picked his top 10 Bond girls of all time and asks where the latest entry Eva Green (from Casino Royale) belongs. The list represents a terrific swathe of Bond heroines and how they’ve evolved over the years.

Here is Joshua’s list.

10. Melina Havelock (Carole Bouquet), For Your Eyes Only (1981)
9. Tiffany Case (Jill St. John), Diamonds Are Forever (1971)
8. Rosa Klebb (Lotte Lenya), From Russia With Love (1963)
7. Wai Lin (Michelle Yeoh), Tomorrow Never Dies (1997)myeoh01.jpg
6. Xenia Onatopp (Famke Janssen), GoldenEye (1995)
5. Anya Amasova (Barbara Bach), The Spy Who Loved Me (1977)
4. Jinx (Halle Berry), Die Another Day (2002)
3. Tracy di Vicenzo (Diana Rigg), On Her Majesty’s Secret Service (1969)
2. Pussy Galore (Honor Blackman), Goldfinger (1964)
1. Honey Ryder (Ursula Andress), Dr. No (1962)

As for me, I have my loyalties mapped out as you can tell from the pictures I’ve chosen.

Hint: Look at the tags if you can’t tell who they are.

thats a nice list..although, i will feel Carey Lowell in License to Kill, should be on the top 3 atleast as she was the most fleshed out multi dimensional Bond girl ever, Grace Jones as Mayday in A View to a Kill should also be there in the top 10 , i dont think Michelle Yeho deserved that place, instead Sophie Marcau (The World is Not Enough) is a worthy contender..but thats just me thinking.

I like Cary Lowell and Sophie Marcau too! But I also liked Michelle Yeoh particularly because she was the only Bond girl cast as an action lead. So instead of trembling in the background and occasionally pitching in, she got to match Bond stunt for stunt.

Yup, Michelle kicked Halle Berry’s bikini clad bottom much as I love her but I think Ursula Andress did the best job as the quintessential Bond Girl without making it completely annoying a la “Dr. Quinn”.

I think Carole Bouquet was the sexiest.

Carole was so very…french, wasn’t she? We all have our reasons - I remember walking out of a stinker like Octopussy with a total crush on Maud Adams primarily because she looked vaguely like the cutest girl in our neighborhood. (That was the movie filmed in India where all of our models tripped over themselves to get into the film. Casting Call #22! Sunbather outside the pool! This way ladies!)

And in a bit of trivia of world shattering importance, Maud Adams is the only woman who has acted in three of the Bond films.
