TV A Bit Thanda This World Cup

I have been wondering off late what has happened to the craziness which we succumbed to before World Cup. Remember the times when a Cricket World Cup meant Music videos dedicated to Team India, or something like a hu ha campaign, or music videos by ex-cricketers like Mohinder Amarnath and Vindo Kambli etc. (the former is a good singer but the latter should reconsider his singing as well as his hair-do).

So has the Cricket become a little thanda or is it just me who has succumbed to this syndrome. People say it will improve with the World Cup starting but I somewhat don’t feel so. Actually things have changed quite a bit. It’s the children who used to pump in the maximum TV ratings I think who have found other good things which can be done with a television (like attaching a Playstation or a X-Box). Nowadays you goto a Cricket ground in the city and find it quite empty and all. (in relative terms, you see even the population is increasing so considering all considerations like it).

Unrelated that all, maybe, but the fact is that Cricketing Shows have degraded to a mere blabbering of random thoughts on News Channels. Leading the race are the Hindi News Channels. Aaj Tak with experts like Madan Lal and Saba Kareem, Sahara News puts you up with 4-5 of so called experts like Ashok Malhotra, Atul Wassan, Keerti Azad etc., Star News has Sandeep Patil. I must admit that even their Angrezi counterparts are doing no good either.

Actually media seems to have beaten the hell out of Cricket with its continuous scrapping up of the game. You can’t milk a cow for ten times a day, seven days a week even if it’s done by a different MilkMan.

Maybe the quality of content is an issue but shows like ESPN-Star’s Samsung Cricket Show still show you the feel good side of presenting Cricket.

With news channels eating up much of the Cricketing Space it’s difficult to look for something good. Even a good Cricketing ad like the ever so fresh in memory Cadbury Dairy Milk Cricket Ad (with a cute gal going haywire after her boyfriend hitting a six) is a thing of the past now.

So News Channels, Ads, and Music Videos nothing keeps up to the Cricket Fever we are used to or maybe I was used to. Maybe it’s a bit to do with the fact that our team has been quite inconsistent and the tipsy-topsy performance has lead to this thing. But the buzz surrounding World Cup was always there even with much worse Indian teams going.
Maybe there is something wrong only with me. Everyone still seems to enjoy Cricket, but why have I got this sort of resistance against the fever. As I am writing this my boss reads me some Astrologers prediction for the World Cup. Maybe the space for Television has been gobbled up by Web sites, Forums and Blogs. God please give me back some of that Cricket ka Bukhaar.

TV Channels please help the patient to be!!!
