Shweta Nanda To Host NextGen

Shweta during her Save the Dolphin campaign

Shweta Nanda, the only Bachchan who has forever shied away from the glamorous limelight (except whiles accompanying her family), seems to have eventually crawled out of her nut-shell by accepting NDTV Profit‘s offer to host yet another television chat show.

The show NextGen as the name directly suggests will be featuring the ambitious current generation aka the fresh blood churned out by our celebrities themselves. The interesting part is that the show doesn’t only limit to offspring’s from the film fraternity but also expands into different fields of art, literature, sports, fashion and business.

NextGen commences today i.e. March 6th at 8.30 pm and will be a 12-part series. The first guests on the show will be Amaan and Ayaan Ali Khan, sons of sarod maestro Ustad Amjad Ali Khan.

When asked as to what prompted Shweta to jump on the bandwagon, she reveals that her children are grown up now and that many things have settled down in her life plus NDTV profit has been very accommodating with her work schedules. She sure is very excited about her upcoming show and says “My show will be on Gen X. Today’s youth have a go-getter attitude; they are outspoken and ambitious.”

Married to industrialist Nikhil Nanda, Shweta did a show on television for NDTV’s rival channel CNN-IBN where she donned the role of a citizen journalist and did a documentary on the Save the Dolphin campaign.

Shweta who leads a very ordinary life which predominantly revolves around the needs of her children further confesses that she never has or wants to become an actress. Further stating that she has now passed the age to become one. Her favorite chat shows are those hosted by Oprah Winfrey, Larry King and Barbara Walters. Closer to home, she loves Karan Johar’s Koffee with Karan and Shah Rukh Khan’s Kaun Banega Crorepati. Is daddy dearest hearing? Do we smell something burn!

Well her family seems very supportive of her decision to host the show and have advised her to make good friends with the camera. Time will tell what this shy Bachchan has in store for us. Judging from her family background and experience I think she too like the rest of them will do more than enough justice when faced in front of the camera thereby not letting us public down. Hopefully her choice in guests and manner of conducting the show could inspire other shy celebrity siblings to come out into the open hence bring about a new fresh trend in television chat show hosting!

Why does have this strange foreign American sounding (and part Brit) accent when she talks? Very artificial. It’s not like she spent all her life in the US
