I fully agree with you, Jaspal Bhatti was the example of what good quality Indian comedy can be? Unlike the bollywood comedies where funny means somebody retarded or someone acting silly, Jaspal Bhatti entertained us with satire which was clean and family fun, these days indian telly is obsessed with unnaturally dressed and goaded jewellry laded sas and bahus with some sinister agendas…Help please deliver us to Jaspal Bhatti comedy again.

Flop show was a classic. I remember few of the episodes:
1)The PhD guide trying to net his student as a son-in-law
2)The friend who specialises in getting houses vacated but has his own house vacated by goons
3)The father who insists his daughter marries a lineman beacause the line-man was a very imp guy in pre-privatisation days

The ending always used to be with a famous film song of course with comic lyrics. I remember one such ending where the episode was about the Landlords and the tenant fighting. The end song was like

Jis Gali Mein Kirayedar se Jhagra na ho

I met him once at IHC in Delhi.. but was too tongue-tied to say anything! Ulta-pulta and Flop Show were both superb. One episode of Flop Show opens like this:

Jaspal Bhatti: It was always my dream to have a Government job with a Government vehicle so that I can go out in the evening with my wife for a romantic drive.

[Camera zooms out a bit, and we see his smiling wife sitting next to him with her head on Jaspal Bhatti's shoulder. Jaspal Bhatti has one arm around her and his other hand is on a steering wheel.]

Jaspal Bhatti: And now, my dream has come true.

[Camera zooms out even more, and we see Jaspal Bhatti driving a Bulldozer!!]

Lots of fun!

And BTW.. long before there was Office Office.. there was “Yeh Duniya Gazab Ki” Though it was limited to one office, back in those days it symbolised all offices that the common man had to approach. Brilliant satrie.

The best thing I liked about Bhatti and his troop was that they were not afraid of anyone or any political parties…they showed us the facts and how so effortlessly we have excepted our screwups. These guys were awesome.

I have seen couple of epi’s of Office Office…I’ll still prefer FLOP SHOW any day….& I remember the title song..I used to stand in front of the TV & sing it loud…good ol days !!
