Sandiip Sikcand : Where have the Good days gone?

When Sandiip Sikcand left his adopted family as in the Star Network and India’s drama-queen Ekta Kapoor, it gave plenty of reasons for the Television Industrywallas to predict the channels downfall in the coming future. After all Sandiip was not just an ordinary employee, he along with his (then) closely-associated Balaji Telefilms achieved glorious heights in terms of TRP rankings which others could only dream off.

But how long can a man live under someone else’s shadow (Ekta Kapoor in this case) and so one fine morning Sandiip decided to be his own man and in that attempt joined hands with none other but Star Network’s rival channel Sony Entertainment.

However for Mr. Sikcand things are just not going as per plan and success continues to knock on neighbor’s door.

With no visible boost in the channel’s TRPs, thinking heads at the channel are considering showing a not-so-happening Sikcand the door. Sources inform that scuffles over poor TRPs and sinking prime time daily soaps have become a common occurrence in the Sony office.

It started with TRPs dipping when the final drama was unfolding on Bigg Boss. In the last week, other programmes commanded better viewership (according to TAM figures). Kaun Banega Crorepati topped the list of favourites with a TRP of 5.3, followed by Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki with a TRP of 4.9, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi with 4.7 and the India-West Indies match with 4.1. As for the new lot of soaps including Kaajal, Kulvadhu, Jeete Hai Jiske Liye and Durgesh Nandini failing to garner considerable viewership.

There was a meeting between the authorities on Wednesday night and Sandiip was asked to resign. In fact, Sandiip did put in his papers yesterday. He will be serving his notice period for two months and April 30 will be his last day at work

Now whether Sandiip decides to walk off to another network or adopt a plan to get back with his television roots aka. Star Channel - Well only time will tell. As for now only Ms. Kapoor can be seen laughing all the way to the bank.
