Rubberband News

I get Star News and NDTV 24×7 in Amsterdam. Pranoy Roy’s 24×7 still retains the edge over other channels atleast over Star News. After NDTV separated from Star network, Star introduced revamped Star News.

Due to lack of choice for News channel, I end up watching Star News most of the times. The more I watch Star News the more I am convinced that Star News delivers news which can be termed as rubber band news.

Its kind of easy. You take a news and then stretch it, mentioning the same thing again and again. Its the art of stretching a 5 minutes news to 15 minutes and filling the time.

Indian television doesn’t seem to stop anywhere! With the intervention of various American shows revamped with a desi touch here comes still another one. Baywatch-desi style is all set to sizzle on our screens this summer. The desi version by Paritosh Painter has been christened Beach O Beach telecasted for Zee.

Fashion TV : Axed By The I&B Goons

It looks like the goons at the Information & Broadcasting ministry are back in the news for doing what they are most well known for – hoodlum-giri.

In January, minister P R Dasmunshi banned the AXN satellite channel, for two months for showing a program called World’s Sexiest Advertisements citing the reasons as “bad taste” and “against Indian moralities”. Well to me, at that time, the only guys with bad taste seemed to be none other than Mr. Dasmunshi and his battalion.

American Idol: Chris Sligh Loses to Fauxhawk

Chris Sligh has always impressed me as a man with a plan. Walking into the sixth season of American Idol, he and his fellow contestants obviously had to have an idea of how the show works. I don’t doubt that he’s genuinely snarky, but his quip during the auditions (“I’m here to make David Hasselhoff cry”) was pretty much an indicator of Idol things to come: nicely calculated to make an impression on the judges and the viewers at home without offending anybody save The Hoff’s German fans (who can’t vote) and those who are in eternal mourning for the cleavage that was Baywatch (who wouldn’t vote for him anyway).

By the time the top 24 were finalized, however, it must have been obvious to him that he hadn’t landed in the two prime Idol spots that gets everybody talking: the best of the best and the worst of the rest. The girls pretty much had a lockdown on the best section while Antonella Barba and Sanjaya Malakar were shoo-ins for the worst (Sanjaya fans, please don’t email me, I know you love him already. Believe me, how I know!).

The Top 10 Bond Girls

famke_janssen_004.jpgAnyone watch those James Bond films that play all the time on Cable? I do. Every time. There is something about Bond flicks that taps into our sense of reckless boyhood. (I’m not sure how many women watch these reruns but girls, if you want to get to know your men, I suggest you do).

Over the years, of course, one of the things that the franchise has struggled with has been how women have been represented in the movies.

Recently, Joshua Rich, staff writer for Entertainment Weekly picked his top 10 Bond girls of all time and asks where the latest entry Eva Green (from Casino Royale) belongs. The list represents a terrific swathe of Bond heroines and how they’ve evolved over the years.

Here is Joshua’s list.
